PCI-Express 1x/4x/8x/16x PinOut

 
  • PCI 與 PCI Express 之優劣

比起PCI架構看來,PCI介面與所有的週邊資料傳輸,只能通過一條主要幹道來共同分享133MB/s的頻寬來傳送到南橋晶片,資料傳輸完全以先後順序排列,如果遇到較大的資料,很容易電腦系統就會讓速度變慢,像是Serial-ATA裝置或是Gigabit LAN等高速傳輸...等裝置,在PCI架構下效能可就大打折扣。而與北橋連結的繪圖卡AGP匯流排,以最新的AGP 8X來看,資料寬度為32bits、頻率為533MHz,則可提供最高2.1GB/s的資料頻寬,不過對於日趨龐大的資料處理,AGP架構也勢必面臨改朝換面。

有別於PCI匯流排多點下傳(Multi-Drop)平行匯流排技術,PCI Express引進交換式(Switch)點對點序列傳輸技術(Peer-to-Peer),PCI Express在資料傳輸的實體層則是由一組單工通道(Lane)組成發送端(Tx)與接收端(Rx),每組PCI Express都獨立使用自己的通道與南橋晶片傳輸,不再是共用匯流排的架構,不但免去資料傳輸互相干擾的問題,而且每個資料都有第一優先處理的特權,因此單就PCI Express傳輸的架構而言,就比傳統的PCI要來得快上許多。目前在PCI Express初期版本單一通道的傳輸速度可達250MB/s,並且我們在單一通道的場合稱為PCI Express x1(一組Lane的意思),傳輸頻寬為1x250=250MB/s。

目前的PCI Express規劃有x1、x2、x4、x8、x16、x32...等,以適用各領域的傳輸頻寬需求,每種規格有不同的腳座設計,因此外觀長度上就會不同,而北橋晶片與繪圖顯示卡的部分則以PCI Express x16規格起跳,傳輸頻寬高達4GB/s,接近目前AGP 8X 2.1GB/s的一倍,各位可能在想4GB/s已經是一個驚人的數字,但其實上未來的規劃中,PCI Express還可以運行全雙工模式,由於PCI Express擁有一對兩組專用收發端, 每一條專用收發端只作單向傳輸,故此其速度即可再增加一倍,因此在全雙工的PCI Express x16規格中,傳輸頻寬可達8GB/s。
